Fault Finding in Fleet

🔥 Burning smell coming from a socket? Don't keep using it.

We attended a chalet bungalow on Tavistock Road in Fleet after the customer noticed a burning smell from a socket being used for a portable oil-filled heater.

The plug and socket had become badly discoloured and hot, and the customer couldn't safely remove the plug.

They did the right thing: they switched it off and stopped using it.

When a socket shows signs of overheating, it's important to investigate why. The socket itself, plug, fuse, cable terminations and electrical connections all need checking rather than replacing the visible damaged part and assuming the problem is solved.

Warning signs include heat, discolouration, buzzing, a burning smell or a plug that's unusually difficult to remove.
